THE SOLIFTEC REGISTER
OF DOMESTIC SOLID FUEL APPLIANCES

The Solid Fuel Technology Institute maintains the Register of some 3000 domestic solid fuel appliance from four continents. It is not an approval list, but a wealth of performance data based on the information made publicly available by manufacturers, offered free of charge to architects, householders and specifiers the world over.

Updates and Corrections

Manufacturers of domestic (up to 50kW) solid fuel appliances are invited to submit updates and corrections by completing the spreadsheet below and returning it to glynhughes@soliftec.com To prevent errors, please submit your entire solid fuel product range every time, even if products are already listed.

As a minimum, enter the appliance name, type and heat output. Where an appliance output is not known, it may be estimated on the basis of 400kW per cubic metre of actual fuel (not firebox) volume. Where the fuel volume is uncertain and only the total firebox volume given (as with some wood burning appliances) output may be estimated on the basis of 200kW per cubic metre of firebox. In all cases a 'c' should be given before an estimated value.
Appliance Types are: A=Automatic feed, B=Boiler, C=Cooker, F=Freestanding, H=Hot Air Central, I=Inset, M=Masonry Stove (ie. where heat output is affected by dense mineral parts, eg Kachelöfen, Petche), O=Open fire, and should be in alphabetical order, eg: ABF..
Efficiency is mean actual appliance % over firing cycle, NOT combustion or heat transfer efficiency but total appliance efficiency using real fuels.
CO is mean carbon monoxide in flue gas, as %.
Smoke emission should be in grams and include the basis, eg g/hr. g/kw, g/kg.
Outputs are in kW, either nominal, rated or maximum at the manufacturers discretion.
Test fuel is the fuel used to achieve the given performance indicators. Fuels are: Wood Logs, Wood Chips, Wood Pellets, Corn, Anthracite (lump), Anthracite Peas ('rice coal'), Lignite, Straw, Peat, Bit(uminous) Coal, Coke, Hard Fuels (Anthracite, Coke). If an appliance has been tested in more than one condition, it may be entered once for each.
Standards are the industrial standards to which the manufacturer claims conformity, whether or not the appliance has been independently certified.

Manufacturers and distributors are reminded that it is a criminal offence to make a false statement in order to obtain advantage.
